A letter to our guests
Dear Reader,
I have always thought the beginning of a film feels a little like falling in love. You invest in something without quite realizing how you’ll feel about it afterward, and when the walls give way, you find yourself in distant kingdoms, forgotten centuries, and lives beyond your own. We miss places we have never been, ache for people who never existed, and carry them with us long after the credits. A film can quite literally carry us anywhere.
Even though I borrow your sunrise while the sun sets where you are, we do not have to feel worlds away. A screen can turn distance into a doorway. We can meet beneath another sky, wander through another country, or belong to any time a story allows. And then for a bit, we feel in the same small corner of the world.
Although there hardly is any intimacy being in the position we found ourselves in, it doesn’t mean we can't create a space for it. And even though the silver screen and the little one in our phones cannot replace being with you in person and looking into the beautiful eyes I fell in love with, it will have to do for now until the theater brings the staff overseas.
Perhaps that is what The Lion’s Grove has known since its grand opening on May 8, 1950: films can take us to a thousand places, but the one I want most is still right next to you.
Until then, choose a film. I’ll meet you there.
Forever yours,
The Lion’s Grove Theater
